Florida visitors showed their flexibility Tuesday when organizers of the ACT exchange program between Florida and Guelph had to call off a trip to the Elora beef and dairy research stations, due to bad weather. But this excited students even more - they got to experience snow.

Many of the students visiting from Florida have never seen snow before, and welcomed the free time to make snowmen and snowballs. They were, however, not so enthused about the cold weather. After an hour-long walking tour of campus first thing Tuesday morning, a piping hot chocolate was in order. Students later got out of the cold by touring the university's main greenhouse facility and the Central Animal Facility. Over lunch, they met the Associate Dean of the Ontario Agricultural College, Prof. Mary Buhr, then spent jost of the afternoon with Guelph students in the Students Promoting Awareness of Research Knowledge (SPARK) office, learning about SPARK's multi-faceted approach to research communications.

In the evening, a delegation of 20 Florida and Guelph students headed to the Guelph Sports and Entertainment Complex to experience another winter pastime, a Guelph Storm hockey game. Unfortunately, despite cheers from the Florida and Guelph students, the Storm lost a close game 2-1 to archrivals the Kitchener Rangers. But the students came out winners, with autographed T-shirts and Frisbees from some of the Storm players.
