Sunday, 27 February 2005

Sunday, Florida ACT members -- Ginger, Ashley, Allison, Peggy, Elizabeth, Julie and Ricky -- were a little chilly when they arrived, but their spirits were certainly not dampened, as many of them frolicked in the snow for the first time in their lives. Their first afternoon here was filled with a driving tour of Guelph, supervised by CanACT director Rob Fieldhouse. He pointed out such attractions as the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food headquarters, the landmark Church of Our Lady, historical John McCrae house and the wooden covered bridge. The tour ended with a stop for hot chocolate at Canada's famous Tim Horton's.

The delegation was hosted for dinner by Owen and Renée, along with other CanACT members. The menu was filled with foods unique to the Canadian culture - hearty stew, a variety of cheeses, roasted potatoes and smoked salmon. Dinner was magnificently arranged on a tablecloth depicting the Canadian flag.

Following the dinner Florida ACT delegates and CanACT members participated in one of Canada's oldest past times - ice skating at the University of Guelph twin pad arena. After only a few stumbles, all who participated described Sunday as an exceptional beginning to the Guelph part of the exchange.
